This is the second in my "Healing" trilogy. The first painting, "Healing Circle" was commissioned for the cover of Jenny Hill's book "Circle of Healing" relating the stories of the survivors of Canada's Residential Schools. This trilogy symbolizes the ongoing struggle to recognize and achieve healing for those survivors. This is a highly symbolic drawing which depicts the elements used in a smudge ceremony; a ceremony that is used to invoke healing or purification. The four elements of the smudge are smoke (or air), fur (animals), a shell (the sea) and sweetgrass (the earth).
