These two paintings were commissioned by The Ranch at Fish Creek Restoration Society, as part of the "Artisan Garden" project. This project is an expansion of the Native Species garden that honors the First Nations people who inhabited the Fish Creek Valley prior to the first settler John Glen, in 1890. This project brings together celebrated artists and people interested in creating their legacy. Amphitheatre style seating features 24 benches with attached 3-sided arrowhead monoliths, each showcasing 3 pieces of original art. This setting accommodates family celebrations, children's outdoor learning opportunities and public events for over 100 people. The "Artisan Garden" ensures Alberta's history, nature and art will be honored and represented in this unique and culturally significant venue. Canadian artists Robert Bateman, Vilem Zach, Jeff de Boer, Paul Van Ginkel, Derek Besant, Doug Swinton, Alexandra Haeseker and First Nations Artists are among the fifty plus artists who participated in this landmark project. Three central themes were essential and of key importance in preserving and celebrating the history of the Fish Creek Valley: First Nations, family & the local natural environment.
