Ancestors of Joseph Denis WEBER

Born in Prince Albert, Saskatchewan in 1951, Dennis lived most of his life in Calgary before moving to the Okanagan Valley in 1999. His mothers family was from Gabriels Landing near Batoche, Saskatchewan, an area important to the Metis as well as significant to the formation of Canada itself. His Native ancestry which includes Cree, Ojibwa and Sioux has been traced to the 1600s and his French heritage to the 1400s. Dennis is a direct descendent of Cuthbert James Grant* and his son* (with the same name) was a famous Metis leader. Dennis is also Louis David Riels* first cousin, five generations removed and is descended from famous explorer Jean Nicolet. Many Metis traditions have filtered down to him and their influences can be seen in his paintings.
